Bumble Proprietor:

Mary Heffernan

Mary is the founder and proprietor of Bumble Los Altos. A Menlo Park native, she now lives in Los Altos with her husband Brian, a real estate attorney, and their three girls Francie (4), Maisie (2.5) and Janie (1).

Mary founded Academic Trainers in Menlo Park 10 years ago- providing individualized tutoring instruction and entrance exam prep for local students in preschool through high school. She founded a second Academic Trainers location and another business providing errand runners called GoGo Menlo.

Five years ago she opened the doors of Brilliant Babies- a place for kids to play and learn- also in downtown Menlo Park, providing drop-in playtime for kids ages 1-5 years that serves hundreds of families with young children in the Bay Area. Brilliant Babies closed in February of 2012 to move to Los Altos as an all new educational playspace for kids! PLAY! Los Altos is set to open very soon offering classes and playtime for children ages 0-10.

After having children of her own, Mary wanted to create a family friendly cafe for parents to gather, kids to play and everyone to eat, drink and relax. Bumble was an idea forming for many years and the little cottage on First Street downtown Los Altos seemed like the perfect place to open up shop. She hopes to provide a premier destination for families looking for high quality, farm-to-table food and educational, engaging fun.

As you can see, when she isn't at Bumble she is taming her wild animals!
